In this book, J C Ryle speaks plainly and simply about things that will help Christians in their spiritual growth. Once he selects a topic, he covers it fully, leaving no stone unturned. You don't need a PhD to read any of J C Ryle's writings, and the practical advice he gives is priceless! Much of his instruction puts me in mind of a wise grandfather giving sharing his knowledge and experience with an eagerly listening grandchild. One of my very favorite authors. An amazing book that doesn't skirt around the issues of real Christianity. The Bible is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Just because society is changing and sin is becoming the norm does not mean that God is changing and more accepting of sin. We become comfortable in our lifestyle and this book is a great reminder of what a real Christ driven life should look like.
Danger! This book will make you a more sober and serious follower of Jesus Christ.
I am anxious to read more of his works. It pleased my heart to his tenderness, yet his truthful statements about The Word. If he was alive I would loved to thank him personally.

J C RYLE researches thoroughly the Word and adds nothing to it not takes from it. My eyes have been opened to truth by his work. He gives reasons for all his work, and does not follow the crowd nor denominational prejudice.

This is a brilliant book by JC Ryle. He teaches and exhorts us to live a life according to what God wills for us. Great companion for his other great work "Holiness". It is a delightful and must read for all.
This printing with the blue/gray cover and collage of photos on it isbn 9781479245758 does contain a table of contents with page numbers. The typeface is of typical size and style for this day and age and is easy to read.
This review is NOT about Ryle's content which is great. The review is about how the book is put together. The book has no page numbers, no table of contents and few chapter divisions in a lengthy book. The print is small. All of these factors make the book nearly impossible to use for a group discussion/study.
